Last month, Your BFF chopped it up with Rich Franklin and asked him about the most random stuff on the planet. While some of it will be appearing on the pages of FIGHT! Magazine in the not-so-distant future, here is an excerpt where the former UFC Middleweight Champion talks about the types of books he loves and loathes, as well as some titles you might wanna check out at Barnes & Noble.

Bear Frazer: Alright Rich. I know you read a lot. So with that said, what is the last book you started reading and never finished?

Rich Franklin: Let me think. The last book I started reading and never finished. I’m thinking back. I read often and I don’t know, man. Typically, I finish books. Probably … probably … you know what? I don’t even know. I’m trying to think of books that I’ve read that … I just don’t know. Once I start a book, it’s as if I have to finish. I have to finish a book. The last book I read was a book titled I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist, and I read that cover-to-cover. Probably the book I read prior to that was Marine Sniper [by] Charles Henderson, the famous Marine Sniper. I read both his first book and his second book. Silent Warrior was the second book and Marine Sniper was the first one, and I read Silent Warrior and that was probably the book I read before that. But I do a lot of reading.

Bear Frazer: Fair enough. Since you read all your books, what book would be the one where you’d march back to Barnes & Noble and demand your money back?

Rich Franklin: Ooooooh, you are stumping me here! I’m trying to really think because I’m really selective. My time is so limited that unless I have half a dozen people telling me a certain book was really good, I won’t even bother picking it up and … I don’t read novels either. You would catch me reading a book on Roman history before you catch me reading some sort of fictional novel. I don’t even bother with novels. And so I guess with that being said, because that’s the tastes that I have, you’re not ever really disappointed in reading a book about, say, Roman history for example because it’s almost written like a textbook sort of speak. It’s not as if you put it down and [are] like, “Oh, that was a horrible book.” I’ll tell you one book that I did read that was a good book and I recommend it for someone, but it was a difficult read and I read this shortly after my dad passed away. It was 90 Minutes In Heaven and he (the author, Don Piper) was hit by a car and he died. He was actually pronounced dead for 90 minutes, and then he ended up recovering and living, and he basically tells about his out-of-body experience, which is part of the reason why I was reading the book. But the book went so deeply into the recovery and his accident and what he had gone through – which was a terrible thing by the way – that as I was reading the book, it was horrible having to read what this guy went through. I was like, “I don’t want to read this stuff, man. This is just … bad.”

UFC 133: Evans vs. Ortiz II takes place from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this weekend and, as usual, Your BFF returns with our monthly FIGHT! Picks. This time around, he rematches the three music artists he defeated the last time: Dan Kenny of Suicide Silence, Shaun Cooper of Taking Back Sunday and Armand Jasari of I The Breather.

Brian Ebersole vs. Dennis Hallman

Shaun: I gotta go with Ebersole [by] UD. I was so impressed with his performance against Chris Lytle back in February. I am interested to see if his lack of chest hair arrow will have any effect on his performance!

Dan: Ebersole was very impressive with his last fight. Beating Lytle was a real eye opener. Hallman is another veteran and I believe he has the tools to take this goofy dude out. Hallman will win via unanimous decision.

Armand: Brian’s outstanding submission defense is gonna come into play in this one. I think Dennis will try to keep Brian on the ground in an effort to outwrestle him, but will not be able to as Brian seems like he will keep Dennis on his toes, not allowing for any advances, which will result in a win by Brian via unanimous decision.

Bear: Ebersole made his UFC debut against Chris Lytle, who was on an absolute tear, and defeated him. That along speaks volumes. Now, he faces Hallman and I think this fight is gonna be closer than most people think. However, I have a good feeling about Ebersole. I’m gonna have to roll with him.

Shaun picks Ebersole. Dan picks Hallman. Armand picks Ebersole. Bear picks Ebersole.

Rory MacDonald vs. Mike Pyle

Shaun: MacDonald UD. He has looked really great in all his UFC fights including his lone loss to Condit. Pyle is another great vet, but I think the younger MacDonald will be too athletic for him.

Dan: I think both of these guys are bad ass. Rory destroying Diaz was insane. I think Rory’s hands and aggressive clinch will win the fight. MacDonald via TKO round 2

Armand: I think this fight will remain standing and come to a unanimous decision. Even though Mike has a great deal of more experience, Rory has been improving more and more each time he sets foot in the Octagon. It will be a fun one to watch for sure.

Bear: It’s really difficult to go against Rory MacDonald right now. He has just looked extremely impressive in all of his recent fights – even during the loss he had to Condit. I gotta go MacDonald on this one.

Shaun picks MacDonald. Dan picks MacDonald. Armand picks MacDonald. Bear picks MacDonald.

Constantinos Philippou vs. Jorge Rivera

Shaun: Costas KO round 2. [I] eally like Rivera, but I think Costas will be able to really let his hands go against him. This will be a really exciting fight and my pick for FOTN. WAR SERRA/LONGO!

Dan: I don’t know much about Constantinos Philippou except he lost his debut and probably wants to make an impression after that. Jorge has always been amazing and he fights with a lot of heart. I’m going with the veteran Rivera by Decision.

Armand: I think Jorge will have the upper hand in this fight. He is an extraordinary striker and will have this one in the bag. Although Constantinos is somewhat a solid wrestler/submissionist, it won’t be enough to stop Rivera’s deadly strikes when going toe to toe. I’ll go ahead and give this fight a round 3 KO by Jorge Rivera.

Bear: I love the Serra/Longo Fight team (I’m a Long Islander), but I think this is Jorge Rivera’s night to shine. Plus, you know he’s gonna be madder than usual. He last fought Michael Bisping … and yeah. ‘Nuff said.

Shaun picks Philippou. Dan picks Rivera. Armand picks Rivera. Bear picks Rivera.

Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Vitor Belfort

Shaun: Belfort KO round 1. Akiyama has had a rough time in the Octagon. I think Belfort can potentially dominate anyone in the 185 pound weight class who isn’t named Anderson Silva.

Dan: I love this fight and hope to both of these dudes fight like they used to. I think we are gonna see a knockout for sure and I think a dedicated embarrassed (the Segal kick) Belfort will go for it hard and KO Akiyama in round one!

Armand: Well this is an important fight for both of them. However, I think that the Phenom has Akiyama beat in the size and strength department. Even though both are solid strikers, I think Vitor is more vigorous than Akiyama when it comes to stand up. I think this may be a knockout fight considering outstanding power the Phenom holds. To add onto this, Vitor would have the advantage on the ground as well IMO.

Bear: I really want to say Akiyama, but I simply don’t see him getting the job done. Vitor is usually a more aggressive dude whereas Akiyama … I just haven’t seen the fire in his eyes throughout his UFC tenure. I just can’t see Vitor dropping this one – unless Akiyama has been working with Steven Segal, that is.

Shaun picks Belfort. Dan picks Belfort. Armand picks Belfort. Bear picks Belfort.

Rashad Evans vs. Tito Ortiz

Shaun: This fight is really interesting. Rashad has been out of the cage for a long time. Tito is coming off his upset victory of Ryan Bader. How will 2 back to back camps effect Tito’s health? How will cage rust effect Rashad? I’m going to predict Tito takes it by clear cut UD. He will fight the winner of Rampage/Bones for the title early next year!

Dan: Everyone picked Bader in the last Tito fight and were shocked Tito won. Lots of respect to Tito for taking this fight and being confident. I don’t even think the old Tito would pose a threat to the Evans today. I see Evans winning by TKO round 2 but it might go to Decision but Evans regardless!

Armand: I think Rashad will win with a knockout. He has the upper edge against Tito due to his solid stand up game.

Bear: I really, really … really don’t want to pick this one. I honestly feel like this is gonna be a closer fight. Like … yeah, Rashad is a better striker and wrestler, but he hasn’t fought in over a year. Tito, on the other hand, just upset Bader last month. He’s definitely the fresher of the two and could very well pull off the upset. But see, here’s the thing: whoever I pick to win this fight will probably lose. If Rashad loses, it’s karma for sitting out so long. If Tito loses, well then, he couldn’t replicate the Cinderella story that Leben did a year ago. Ahhh … ok. Despite what looks smarter on paper, I took my logic and sold it to the Bodega down the street. I’m rolling with Tito.

Shaun picks Ortiz. Dan picks Evans. Armand picks Evans. Bear picks Ortiz.

With UFC 132 going down this weekend, Your BFF returns with UFC 132 FIGHT! Picks and makes predictions with rock music’s biggest MMA fans including Dan Kenny of Suicide Silence, Shaun Cooper of Taking Back Sunday and Armand Jasari of I The Breather.

Dennis Siver vs. Matt Wiman

Dan: I love this fight and think this will be fight of the night. I love Wiman and I know he learned a lot from Gilbert Melendez (the man).

Shaun: Really hard to pick as both have been surging lately. I’m going to take Siver by unanimous decision by crisp technical striking and his rapidly improving take down defense. Wiman is a beast though and I’d never count him out.

Armand: I think this fight will go to a decision with Dennis Siver winning due to a higher hit percentage.

Bear: This is going to be a pretty fun fight. Although Siver has looked real impressive lately, especially with toppling George Sotiropoulos, I think Wiman is gonna pull through with the U-D.

Dan picks Wiman, Shaun picks Siver. Armand picks Siver. Bear picks Wiman.

Carlos Condit vs. Dong Hyun Kim

Dan: I never count out either of these guys and think this match up is weird but should be an awesome MMA fight. What the heck are these guys’ game plans? I see Kim with the edge and think he will shock us and become a bigger contender in the 170-pound division.

Shaun: Condit’s striking should be key to victory here. Definite sleeper for a potential Fight Of The Night.

Armand: Condit via submission due to his exceptional jiu-jitsu techniques.

Bear: Dong Hyun Kim has some solid judo throws and definitely showed guys like Amir Sadollah just how good it is. While Condit’s biggest weakness has been his wrestling, he has always persevered and found a way to crush his opponents. I believe the same thing will happen here.

Dan picks Dong Hyun Kim. Shaun picks Condit. Armand picks Condit. Bear picks Condit.

Ryan Bader vs. Tito Ortiz

Dan: I love this fight because they are both so hungry to win again. Hopefully this is a slugfest, but I think it will probably be a “who can take down who.” Stalemate? I think Tito is done. This should be the end of Tito sadly.

Shaun: Bader’s heavy hands/solid boxing will overwhelm Tito. Tito is a legend.

Armand: Ryan Bader via knockout because Tito has been out of the game for a while now and will get overwhelmed by Ryan.

Bear: Tito might have the better jiu-jitsu game and that’s his best hope to win this fight. However, I see Bader getting the TKO or the decision. He’ll overwhelm “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy,” send him packing from the UFC and, in his post-fight interview, Tito will talk about being injured before the bout.

Dan picks Bader. Shaun picks Bader. Armand picks Bader. Bear picks Bader.

Wanderlei Silva vs. Chris Leben

Dan: This is a tough one but I see Leben as a hungrier younger fighter that would love to beat a legend. How many punches in this fight??? 500,000?

Shaun: Obviously this should be Fight Of The Night. These guys will slug it out in an intense battle. Leben will land some bombs but Wand will be more accurate and use his clinch and maybe even wrestle effectively.

Armand: My pick is Wanderlei because his aggressive nature will leave Leben unsure of how o stop it, which will result in a TKO by Silva.

Bear: Whenever Chris Leben is motivated, he wins. Sure, that excitement didn’t translate when he battled Brian Stann (whom he lost to), but it was present when he took on Aaron Rosa, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Terry Martin, etc. That’s why I’m rolling with Leben on this one.

Dan picks Leben. Shaun picks Silva. Armand picks Silva. Bear picks Leben.

Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber for UFC Bantamweight Title

Dan: I see this being a long fight and no fast guillotine this time. But I see Cruz stuffing every take down and blasting little short Urijah.

Shaun: Cruz has looked amazing but I think Faber is still a step ahead. really close fight though.

Armand: Urijah by submission because his speed and agility will overwhelm Cruz, allowing Urijah to go in for the kill.

Bear: He might have already lost to Faber, but Cruz has been on a tear since moving down to Bantamweight and claiming the title. I think he might be quicker than Faber in this fight, and I see him picking him apart with his boxing en route to a decision.

Dan picks Cruz. Shaun picks Faber. Armand picks Faber. Bear picks Cruz.

So who are you picking?

It’s been a long whiles since I have blogged. While FIGHT! and other publications have kept me busy, I wanted to share with all of you a project I’m working on. I’m in the midst of fundraising to shoot my pitch film, The Bam Theory, and wanted to share with all of you what it’s all about.

So here’s the press release. I hope you enjoy it … I am over half fundraised, so I hope you all enjoy my vision. I’ll be posting up another blog early next week. FIGHT! has shown me tremendous support, and I hope you do too. Enjoy.

FIGHT! MAGAZINE WRITER IS FUNDRAISING THROUGH KICKSTARTER.COM TO SHOOT THE BAM THEORY

PLEDGE AND GET AUTOGRAPHED MEMORABILIA FROM FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, IN THIS MOMENT, AND UFC FIGHTERS JAKE SHIELDS AND CARLOS CONDIT!

Bear Frazer, veteran music writer and longtime contributor to FIGHT! Magazine – the top selling Mixed Martial Arts publication on the planet – is in the midst of launching an MMA Movie Franchise entitled The Bam Theory.

Dubbed as the Rocky for the new generation, The Bam Theory follows 23-year-old Bam Thomas, a small town mixed martial artist who is hesitant to chase his dreams of becoming a UFC fighter due to the tragedy that surrounds him – be it with faith, his father’s suicide or the dead-end job he works to help keep his mother’s house out of foreclosure. Though his friends aren’t cage warriors, all the characters are virtually fighting for the same thing – hope. The hope that dreams can come true.

FIGHT! Magazine Editor-In-Chief Donovan Craig has worked closely with Frazer since the publication’s inception in 2007 and believes he has the work ethic and drive to make The Bam Theory a success. “Bear Frazer is a talented journalist with a real command of what’s cool in the worlds of MMA, fashion and music,” Craig states. “It’s a pleasure to work with him.”

Looking to build awareness on a grassroots level, Frazer has teamed up with Kickstarter.com to raise $3,200 by October 30th to shoot three scenes from the biopic. He plans on using the scenes as a vehicle to form strategic partnerships with a studio in hopes of filming the movie in its entirety in the near future.

Reward incentives are available for those who pledge, some of which include autographed 8X10 pictures from former Strikeforce Middleweight Champ and current UFC Welterweight contender Jake Shields, as well as former WEC Welterweight Champ and UFC Welterweight contender Carlos Condit.

Also contributing rewards is AlphaDog Combat Gear, whose owners Cliff Frese and Zoltan Bathory (guitarist of Five Finger Death Punch) praise the The Bam Theory and are offering five special autographed t-shirts to the cause.

“AlphaDog Clothing is proud to contribute to The Bam Theory since its creator, FIGHT! Magazine‘s own Bear Frazer, is a talented writer and a long time supporter of the sport (Mixed Martial Arts),” Bathory and Frese said in a joint statement. “As a professional writer working for MMA themed publications, his understanding of the sport lends an insiders’ perspective to this film that could be a breakout piece of work for MMA in general. Here at AlphaDog Headquarters we always supported the visionaries exploring lesser traveled roads. Hopefully he can generate enough funds to see through his vision.”

Century Media Records metal band In This Moment also believes in the project and has offered ten autographed copies of their new studio album A Star-Crossed Wasteland, as well as ten autographed pictures.

“In This Moment is proud to contribute to The Bam Theory cause as Bear Frazer is an extremely talented and hard working individual,” Chris Howorth, guitarist for In This Moment, states. “His unique vision and understanding of MMA lends perfectly to this film that could be a breakout piece of work for the sport. He is a visionary and hopefully he can generate enough funds to support his art.”

To obtain one of these killer reward incentives, please head on over to Kickstarter.com to pledge.

For more information, please contact Bear Frazer (bearfrazer@hotmail.com).

About The Bam Theory: Conceptualized and written by Bear Frazer, The Bam Theory is a Mixed Martial Arts dramady that follows 23-year-old Bam Thomas, a small town mixed martial artist who is hesitant to chase his dreams of competing in the UFC due to the tragedy that surrounds him – be it his father’s apparent suicide, his ex-girlfriend constantly reminding him that he’s a failure or the dead-end job he works to help his mother pay for an outrageous mortgage in a fierce foreclosure market. Ultimately, he feels as if God has abandoned him. Though his motivational friends aren’t cage warriors, all the characters in this movie are fighting for the one thing they have left – hope. The hope that something better come out of life and that dreams can come true.

About Bear Frazer: Bear Frazer has written for over thirty national print and online publications including FIGHT! Magazine, Metal-Edge, Outburn, The Source and XXL. Currently working towards a Masters of Fine Arts in Screenwriting, Frazer is attempting to shoot The Bam Theory, a Mixed Martial Arts dramady destined to become the Rocky of the new generation.

•	I hope everyone missed me last week. I was at Disney with the family. Taking my 4-year-old daughter was one of the best experiences in my young life. In my humble estimation Disney is the happiest place on earth. Most people that know me would call me cynical (my mom calls me a Bastard, but she still loves me.) And I know exactly what is going on at Disney. BUT I DO NOT CARE. I will gladly pay $10 for a cheeseburger and $2.50 for water. As long as I leave Disney feeling that way I do, I will immediately plot my return trips. Note: They let you bring in a backpack with food and drink. The temperature was about 100°F so we saved mucho dinero by bringing in water.

•	UFC 116 was AWESOME. Every fight was great. This card was the perfect example of match ups leading to exciting fights. I know we always want to see the top two contenders fight but that is not always the match that thrills us.

•	No matter what you say about Brock, he is fun to watch and understands the entertainment side of MMA as well as anyone. Brock vs Cain. I might have to go see that one live.

•	There is no amount of money the UFC could pay me to fight Shane next. I get the feeling that Pat Barry, Todd Duffee, Jason Brilz and a couple other recent fight losers are going to get a tough call this week.

•	Dana took a big hit when Wandy was lost from the card. However, getting Leben was pure genius. Has anyone ever liked fighting as much as Leban? Give him Silva liked he asked.

•	I really like Sotiropoulos. He is such a complete MMAer. It is really time to start talking about him as a title contender.

•	Hope everyone had a great Fourth. I had a big plate of authentic Salvadoran pupusas for lunch. If that does not tell you what this country is about then I can’t help you.

These “after thoughts” were originally supposed to be part of a “larger” collaborative piece, but that prototype failed. We’re still working on the kinks. So instead of wasting some thoughts, I’m slinging them here on the blog. Enjoy.

James Irvin vs. Alessio Sakara

FIGHT! Breakdown: Alessio Sakara looked good, but “The Sandman” James Irvin just didn’t look himself at all. I know he is coming off an injury and might have some Octagon rust, but perhaps that tremendous weight cut really took a tremendous amount of energy out of him because his reflexes were real slow. The Italian really lit him up and ended the fight with what appears to have been the knuckle sandwich of doom. Obviously, it must have gotten lost in translation as the sandwich is supposed to go in the mouth, Legionarius. Not the eye. Very weird ending, but also a good eye on ref Josh Rosenthal’s part to not it was a punch, not an eye poke.

What’s next for Irvin: An appointment with an eye doctor. Then, a Gaterade factory so he can re-gain some electrolytes. Once that is done, perhaps a total opposite in Eric Schafer.
What’s next for Sakara: I know he was cut by the UFC, but in a perfect world, David Loiseau would be brought back for this slugfest. But since that probably won’t happen, I’d like to see him throw down with Cro Cop protégé Goran Reljic.

Additional Commentary: Alessio Sakara did an awesome job of impersonating Russell Crowe in his role from Gladiator. And all this talk of knuckle sandwiches has kinda made me hungry.

Cheick Kongo vs. Paul Buentello

FIGHT! Breakdown: I know this isn’t Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, but the secret word for tonight’s telecast of UFC on Versus must be “weird” because this is the weirdest main card I have seen thus far. French kickboxer Cheick Kongo takes Paul Buentello down at will with the fight ending almost twice early on: in the first round due to “The Headhunter” seemingly jamming his pinky finger and in the second round after Kongo illegally knees him in the face. The end finally comes in the last stanza as the Frenchman taps out his battered nemesis due to killer guerilla strikes to the thigh.

What’s next for Buentello: Tim Sylvia, and unfortunately, it’ll probably be at one of those Adrenaline MMA Shows.
What’s next for Kongo: Ben Rothwell is booked, so with that said, I’d like to Kongo take on the winner of Roy Nelson/Stefan Struve. Both of those dudes have solid BJJ skills with underrated striking. A match with Kongo could possibly upstream another contender in what is already a stacked heavyweight pool.

Additional Commentary: Man, Cheick Kongo kisses his fingers and pounds his chest a lot. Those convulsions scare me. Nevertheless, it’s nice to see him work on the weakest part of his games: wrestling and thigh striking. And in other related news, GSP has his poker face on. Lady Gaga would be proud.

Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Junior Dos Santos

FIGHT! Breakdown: Hello normalcy. You have been distant strangers all night. Don’t ever leave me again. So Gonzaga was feisty early on, throwing leg kicks, a few punches and even getting “Cigano’s” back at one point. But once Dos Santos shook him off, “Napao” lost confidence, it seemed, and decided to stand up and trade with him instead. Unfortunately for him, “Cigano” blocked his Cro Cop-esque leg kicks, slugged him in the fast and TKO-ed him unconscious like most folks expected.

What’s next for Gonzaga: Minotauro Nogueira, and not just because he’s the mentor of Dos Santos, but because it was be absolute BJJ sickness.
What’s next for Junior Dos Santos: Cain Velasquez in a number one contender’s match for the UFC Heavyweight Title. There really isn’t another alternative, plus you know “Cigano” would want to avenge his Mr. Miyagi.

Additional Commentary: I don’t care how much Gonzaga loses or how happy he looks even when he loses. He is still the one dude who can beat any heavyweight on any given day.

Brandon Vera vs. Jon “Bones” Jones

FIGHT! Breakdown: It’s just amazing how Jones dominated “The Truth” from the opening bell. Aside from the one weird moment where Vera slugged him in the face with an illegal upkick, which prompted a delayed reaction from Double J, it was all Jon “Bones” Jones. We’ve never seen Vera grimace over with pain and let’s face it: that elbow to the eye socket was mean! Dude’s just unstoppable right now.

What’s next for Vera: After an appointment with an eye surgeon, a match up with the under appreciated janitor himself Vladimir Matyushenko (though a fight with Thiago Silva would probably be a little more exciting).
What’s next for Jones: Another rising star: Ryan Bader. Also young, undefeated, heavy handed with a wrestling base, this is definitely the best available match-up available, hands down.

Additional Commentary: The ending to this fight was so crazy, that my right eye was hurting. Then again, I’ve had a headache over my eye all day. DAMN YOU, SUDAFED!

Closing Statement:
Despite the weirdness and oddball finishes, new stars were born, careers we rejuvenated and eyeballs were damaged on the debut broadcast of UFC on Versus. Even the production value, for some peculiar reason, felt better tonight than it has on recent Zuffa-branded events. In the end, this was a big night for all those involved – be it the UFC, DirecTV, Versus, most people whose first name start with J, the Keebler Elf and the eye surgeons who will be capitalizing off said fighter’s injuries.

In this edition of UFC 110 Celeb FIGHT! Picks, we ask a panel of five musicians, who are diehard MMA fans, to voice their thoughts on the co-main event between Wanderlei Silva and Michael Bisping. Evidently, they are all thinking the same thing.

Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed): I’m excited about this fight. After losing to Rich Franklin, Silva has something to prove and he is a warrior through and through. “The Count” is hungry and knows how important this fight is, but I just don’t think his bark is going to match his bite. This is easily one of the biggest challenges of his career. Although It could go either way. I feel that when it comes to technical striker versus all out brawler, the striker usually wins. I just have a feeling Wanderlei is going to knock him out.

Dan Kenny (Suicide Silence): I don’t see this fight making it past round 2. Silva is going to come out hesistant and then hit ‘em hard, smell blood, and TKO him in round 2. Silva also knows he really really could use this win!

Mams Taylor: Silva will knock out Bisping with his superior stand up. Even though he is past his prime, he is of a different caliber to the Brit. Bisping runs a lot and Silva is a veteran with opponents like that. I know I’m a Brit, but Silva all the way here.

Johnny Strong (Operator): I’m sorry to say, I think the axe murderer has taken one too many punches in his career. But that said, he is still a very dangerous striker. Michael on the other hand has only recently taken the shot heard round the world, (Hendo’s right hand) which leads me to believe the he’ll be a little too gun shy to bang with Silva. I’m giving silva the fight. Silva wins – KO

Eugene Robinson (The Oxbow): Bisping, despite everyone I train with feeling differently, is a bum. His robbery of Matt Hamill has yet, in my mind, been something he’s redeemed himself from. Yeah, it was a JUDGES decision. But screw that. When Lawlor recently got robbed, his opponent almost apologized FOR the judges. If Silva does not win, I will in all likelihood kill myself. Silva by knockout.

What do you get when you put two Long Islanders with Italian heritage and heavy New York accents on the phone for fifteen minutes? A fist-pumping conversation between Bear Frazer and Matt Serra.

Bear Frazer: You’re an Italian-American and a lot of Italian-American groups have been protesting against MTV’s reality show, Jersey Shore. I’m not sure if you’ve heard about this show, have you?

Matt Serra: Yes I did! I hear it!

Bear Frazer: Have you watched any episodes of it or anything?

Matt Serra: Yeah, yeah. I saw a few episodes (laughs). How could you not?

Bear Frazer: True. The season finale’s tonight. Watching the replay after you’re done at Longo’s?

Matt Serra: Nah, nah. I didn’t know that was on (laughs). That’s funny. Nah man, I don’t watch it religiously. But if it’s on, it’s kinda, ya know, funny sometimes.

Bear Frazer: A lot of Italian-American groups want it cancelled. They feel it’s offensive and they’re protesting it. Are you offended?

Matt Serra: Nah man, I don’t get all caught up in that. It’s a bunch of kids looking to party and, ya know, let them party. I don’t know. What’s the big deal? I don’t get all caught up and .. I’m not about to make no protest at the Jersey Shore. I could care less. You know what I mean? And let me guess, let me guess …. The Sopranos are bad for Italian-Americans because everybody is in the mafia? Give me a break. I mean, I think, let the kids party. Let them go out, get chicks, let the chicks dance on tables and whatever. Who cares?

Bear Frazer: Right, right. So what are you gonna do after the Trigg fight?

Matt Serra: You know what? As far as fight wise, I take every fight at a time. I never look past or the only thing I know for sure is I will be, of course, here in Long Island eating some sort of Italian food whether its eggplant and rotini … whether it’s mozzarella sticks, whether it’s ravioli, whether it’s pizza, whether it’s stuffed shells, don’t let me keep going. I’ll keep going.

Bear Frazer: Continue.

Matt Serra: Veal parmesan, I’ll be eating somewhere and I’ll be chillin’ with my family and that’s how I do it, and that’s the only thing for sure.

Bear Frazer: My mom would have loved to talk to you about Italian food.

Matt Serra: Aw man! Yeah! I love that stuff! It’s a curse.

The main card of UFC 109 starts in about an hour and a half, so we’re short on time for lengthy extravagant predictions. Plus, I managed to get my “Jeezy” on, shovel myself out of snow and found the time to post some last minute fight predictions. The friendly rivalry between your BFF and Zoltan ensues, but it’s not as fierce as you’d expect it to be this time around.

Randy Couture vs. Mark Coleman

Zoltan: Clash of the Titans – that’s what that is. I think Randy would be lethal even out a fucking wheelchair. It would be like a left wheel choke hold and triangle crutch submission, but still a win. So at 46, I don’t think anything can stop him (other than a double door locker room Armoar called Brock). I think Randy wins this with a TKO.

Bear: I’m going back and forth on this because, obviously, Coleman is the underdog … but he was also an underdog in his previous fights against Bonnar and Shogun (and though he lost to Shogun, he put up quite the fight). And, this time around, he trained with Shawn Tompkins, who left Xtreme Couture for TapouT, so Coleman might have some more knowledge on his side. However, Couture always overcomes anyone in his way (except that NCAA mammoth of a champ) and if Brandon Vera couldn’t beat him, then I’m convinced Couture will get the win. I think Coleman will do well, but Couture, to me, has the slight edge.

Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg

Zoltan: This one is pretty even, but Serra has the surprise factor. If he is “on,” it’s gonna be all bad for Trigg and for some reason, I think he will be on. So I will put that 100 buckaroo on Serra.

Bear: I concurr. I think this will be an even fight, but Serra is motivated and is ready to show some new tricks. If this goes according to plan, expect the New York to retire Trigg tonight.

Nate Marquardt vs Chael Sonnen

Zoltan: I will not put money on this one. Anything can happen here. Nate’s fight against Anderson Silva is not really a good base for judgement because anyone against Anderson is pretty much a worst case scenario to anyone but Silva. Chael’s wrestling is pretty good. Nate probably trained against it though. This may go to decision. I will say Nate Marquardt’s hand will be raised, but as I said, I will not put my neck out on this one.

Bear: I’m more confident in Marquardt’s ability. I’d throw money down on Nate “The Great” and see him beating Sonnen by decision, and even possibly by a third round ground and pound.

There you have it. The same picks.

How do you see it?
