Do you care that Conan O’Brien and Jay Leno are having problems with NBC? Yeah … it’s a shitty situation we’re glad not to be tangled in! Anyways, in this edition of FIGHT! Music, your BFF gets you acquainted with some dope ass records that will surely pump your adrenaline up and get you ready to kick some ass in the cage.

Drowning Pool - “Feel Like I Do”

Drowning Pool has had the worst luck with vocalists. In August 2002, their beloved, original front man Dave Williams was found dead in the back of their tour bus. Then his replacement, Jason ‘Gong’ Jones, couldn’t re-capture the magic the embodied the group’s debut album Sinner. Plus, the other three band members couldn’t stand being in the same room with him, as bassist Stevie Benton once told me, but in nicer terms. But in 2005, Ryan McCombs joined the Drowning Pool guys and their first single “Soldiers” sounded like the group finally captured the magic they previously lost. It was an intense, hard rockin’, mosh pit anthem. And the album, Full Circle, had a different sound. It wasn’t Drowning Pool with Soil’s vocal work, as one would suspect. It was more emotional. Not as overproduced. Deeper, if you will.

Now, this Texas-based collective are on the verge of releasing their fourth studio album (second with the same singer) due out in April. The leadoff single is “Feel Like I Do,” but unlike “Soldiers,” this sounds a lot like Drowning Pool meets Soil. Like if there was ever a record that featured the vintage sound of Sinner and with Ryan McCombs “Soil” era vocals stacked on top of it, this would be the song. While this musical sandwich seems too cheesy with a lighthearted attempt of a sing-a-long chorus, “Feel Like I Do” will probably get stuck in your head relatively quick. And for some reason, I see Gray Maynard bumpin’ this non stop at Xtreme Couture, much to the dismay of Tyson Griffin and Mac Danzig.

Dorrough - “Ice Cream Paint Job”

I know. This song is a few months old, but I’m still addicted to it and evidently, I’m not the only one. Pick up any mixtape and you’ll probably hear Soulja Boy, Rich Boy or Lil’ Wayne spit a hot (or not) 16 over the beat. But make no mistakes about it: this is Dorrough’s original track and he definitely sounds the best on it! While many Texas rhyme slangers throw a few car anthems on their album, Mr. D-O-Double R perfects it on “Ice Cream Paint Job.” Sure, cars have nothing to do with MMA … but Jay Hieron loves ‘em and probably pimps this banger in his Dodge Charger. And, with the lyrical reference to Kimbo Slice, you know Dorrough is a fan of MMA. Or YouTube, at the very least.

From First To Last - “I’ll Inoculate The World With The Virus”

I just got off the phone with the guys of From First To Last for a large feature I’m doing on them for Outburn Magazine and there was lots to talk about … such as changing labels, (leaving Suretone for Rise), guitarist and co-founder Travis Richter leaving the troupe, and, of course, MMA. Expect a small feature about that on the site in coming weeks. The main reason I interviewed the quintet is because they have a new album coming out entitled Throne To The Wolves and while they’re still deciding on what song to shoot a video for, I decided to give you a quick glimpse into the effort. Their song “I’ll Inoculate The World With The Virus” has already been released on their MySpace page and it’s the heaviest track they’ve dropped in years. Then again, their whole album is heavier than their self-titled, minus the last two songs, which have an electronic-type feel going on. Anyways, this is one virus Nurse Singer will keep an eye on.

Oh, and for those of you who are still hooked on Mudvayne’s “Scream With Me,” then check out the full video here. It’s pretty fucking sick. It’s like they’re on some “Heart Shaped Box” kinda shizzle.

‘Til next time,

Your BFF,
Bear.Fuckin.Frazer.
